Licensing
DataStar is a commercial product licensed per organisation and per developer seat. Licensing is designed to be simple to manage, with minimal overhead for both administrators and users.
How it works
Your organisation is registered once with the DataStar cloud licence service. Users within your organisation can then register using their work email address and receive a personal licence.
The DataStar client validates licences automatically at start-up and retrieves a secure access token for enabled features. The client continues to operate offline for up to 30 days using the last valid token.
Organisation setup
Organisation setup is handled as part of onboarding.
- Your organisation is registered by Absolute Technology
- An administrator is invited to configure your tenant
- Approved email domains (for example,
@yourcompany.com) are configured - Users from approved domains can self-register and obtain licences, with the option for access to be centrally managed by nominated administrators
If your organisation has not yet been set up, contact sales and onboarding can typically be completed within one business day.
User registration
Once your organisation is active:
- Access the licence portal (provided during onboarding)
- Register using your work email address
- Confirm your email and sign in
- Open DataStar and sign in via Help → Licence Key
The client will validate and activate automatically against the licence server.
Offline operation
DataStar is designed to work reliably in environments with limited connectivity.
- The client validates licences at start-up and periodically during use
- If the licence service is unavailable, the client continues to operate for up to 30 days
- After this period, a connection is required to refresh the licence
This ensures uninterrupted use during travel or temporary network outages.
Licence mode
Licence Server (recommended). Managed automatically via the DataStar cloud service.
Each developer is assigned an individual licence. Organisation-level tokens are used for CI/CD tooling, while GitSources.Tools is provided at no additional cost.

Pricing
DataStar is licensed on an annual subscription basis, scaled by the number of developer seats.

Evaluation
Evaluation licences are available for new customers and include full feature access.
